Kenyan lawmakers clinched gold in the 4x400m relay, where
the team captained by Bunge Sports Club co-chairperson Vincent Musyoka
crossed the finish line in 50.8 seconds. Other members of the team were David
Ochieng', Dan Wanyama and Bernard Kitur at the Nelson Mandela Stadium in
Namboole.
Kitur, the Nandi Hills MP, added the 100m gold medal after crossing the finishing line in 11.8 seconds, while Musyoka clinched silver
in 12.6 seconds.
In the women’s category, Catherine Omanyo
won gold in the 100m after clocking 16.7 seconds, while Senator Esther Okenyuri
finished fourth in 20.1 seconds. Team Kenya also finished second in the women’s
4x100m relay with a time of 1:26.0.
In the middle-distance races, Phylis Bartoo clocked 8:37.8
to take silver in the women’s 1500m. She placed fourth in the 400m with a
time of 1:55.1, while Senator Beth Syengo timed 2:20.3 in a race won by
Rwanda’s Mukabilisa Germaine.
In the men’s 400m, Mukunji Gitonga clinched bronze in 1:03.9, followed by Joshua Kandie in 1:06.05.
In the men’s 1500m race, Titus Lotee won silver after
clocking 5:24.0, behind Acan Julius, who claimed gold in 5:23.5.
John Kagucha secured bronze in 5:54.1, while Joshua Kimilu
(6:22.7), John Paul Mwirigi (7:35.0) and newly elected Baringo Senator
Kipruto Chemitei (7:49.7) finished in that order.
The annual games, organised by the East Africa Legislative Assembly (EALA), brought together MPs from Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi and South Sudan.
The annual games, themed “Advancing Integration Through Parliamentary Sports,” will run until December 16.
