Meldina Sande hopes to shine on her return to the country when she takes to the field for Kenya Prisons in the Kenya Cup quarterfinals this weekend at Nyayo Stadium.

Sande, a Rwanda Police player, was the MVP in the just-concluded Rwanda Volleyball Federation league.

“I hope to help the team win the Cup,” she said. “Kenya Cup is a really exciting tournament, bringing together top teams in Kenya. I welcome you all to the Nyayo Stadium to cheer your favourite volleyball team.”

“The Cup (competition) is an opportunity to showcase talent,” added Kenya Pipeline returnee Pamela Adhiambo.

She returns to the Kenyan scene full of confidence after winning the Finnish Cup with LP Viesti Volleyball Club.

“I would like to thank the federation for coming up with such an inclusive tournament. It is a good platform for both local and international players,” Adhiambo added.

“Winning the Cup is the main priority. It will also prepare us well for next season.”

The tournament allows teams to recruit players outside of their Kenya Volleyball League squads. However, this will end after the quarterfinals.

Saudi Arabia-based Simion Kipkorir, who will represent the General Service Unit (GSU), added: “We hope to see more teams participate in the tournament in the future. This will make it more competitive.”

The semi-finals and finals will be played on July 12-13.
