Ethiopia’s Milkesa Mengesha outpaced Cyprian Kotut to claim victory at the 50th edition of the Berlin Marathon on Sunday finishing in 2:03:17.
Kotut finished second with a personal best of 2:03:22 with Ethiopia’s Haymanot Alew completing the podium in 2:03:31.
Stephen Kiprop placed fourth in 2:03:37 with Enock Onchari finishing just inside the top 10 in position nine in a time of 2:05:53.
Luke Kiprop finished 11th in 2:06:39 with Kibiwott Kandie following in 12th in 2:06:46.
Stanley Kurgat (2:07:05) and Philemon Kipchumba (2:07:38) finished in 14th and 17th respectively.
This was the first time in 11 years that Two-time Olympic champion Eliud Kipchoge and Ethiopia’s Kenenisa Bekele were not featured in the race. The duo have won seven of the last eight editions of this event.
Kipchoge has won a record five titles (2015, 2017, 2018, 2022 and 2023) while Bekele claimed titles in 2016 and 2019.
In the women's event, Ethiopia's Tigist Ketema claimed victory in 2:16:42, leading her country's podium sweep with Mestawot Fikir (2:18:48) and Bosena Mulatie (2:19:00) completing the top three finishes.
