The men's World 800m silver medalist, Emmanuel Wanyonyi has said he will utilise the Kip Keino Classic to assess his readiness for the 2024 Paris Olympic games.

The fifth edition of the 2024 Kip Keino Classic Your — a part of the World Athletics Continental Tour Gold series — will take place at Nyayo Stadium on April 20.

Competitors at the gold level will earn points toward the world ranking in addition to cash prizes. The annual tour began in 2020.

In an exclusive interview on Wednesday, Wanyonyi disclosed that he is polishing his act at the 2 Running Club at Kapsabet under the 2007 world 800m champion Janeth Jepkosgei and Kenyan-based Italian coach Claudio Berardelli.

"I'll be competing in the Kip Keino Classic for my next race. I plan to utilise this season's first 800-meter event to gauge my level of preparation for the upcoming Olympics in Paris in 2024," Wanyonyi said.

The two-lap teen sensation said he will be seeking to improve his personal best time when he steps into the track.

"I'll be targetting either a 1:40 or 1:41 in my next races," he said.

Wanyonyi rose to global acclamation after storming the world U20 title in Nairobi in 2021, aged only 17, in a championship record of 1:43.76.

His latest feat is a masterclass act accomplished at the Wanda Diamond League season where he tucked away victories in Rabat and then Paris, setting a world-leading Personal Best(PB) of 1:43.27 at the latter meeting.
