The Kenyan World School Cross Country trials will be held on March 28 at Nakuru High School.

Local Organising Committee Deputy CEO Eliud Wambua said plans are underway to accommodate the athletes in Nakuru.

“Female athletes will be accommodated at Nakuru Girls High School, while the boys will be sleeping at Nakuru High School. The technical officials are already at Nakuru marking the course," said Wambua.

60 athletes will be selected to represent Kenya in the U12, U15 and U18 categories. Kenya, being the host, will field a maximum of 10 boys and 10 girls in each category.

In a letter addressed to regional education directors, the Ministry of Education (MoE) has asked each region to send the best of the best to Nakuru.

“Kindly fast-track the cross country championships calendar to allow for the team's availability for national duty. The top 10 finishers in each category will qualify for confirmation into Team Kenya,” the Ministry said.

Kenya hope to dominate the schools' championships, just like they have dominated the cross country competitions in Africa and beyond.

This is the first time the ISF championships are held in Africa.

Athletes will arrive on March 27 for vetting, registration and collection of bib numbers. They will also have a feel of the course.

The athletes must be born between 2006 and 2011 and must have their original birth certificates, parents' consent and school release letter.

They must be students with UPI numbers. The shortlisted athletes will be registered with the ISF for confirmation of entries.

They will then head for a residential training camp in a venue to be decided by the local organising committee.
