Kenyan athletes dominate Kigali International Peace Marathon

Kenya's George Nyamori Onyancha won the men's full marathon, crossing the finish line in a time of 2 hours 17 minutes 41 seconds.

Kenyan runners on Sunday dominated at the multi-category Kigali International Peace Marathon held in the Rwandan capital.

The marathon featured three race categories: the full marathon, half marathon and 10km fun run.

Kenya's George Nyamori Onyancha won the men's full marathon, crossing the finish line in a time of 2 hours 17 minutes 41 seconds.

His fellow countrymen, Silas Kiprotich Kurui (2:18:11) and David Kipkorir (2:18:43) secured the silver and bronze medals respectively.

Kenya's dominance continued in the men's half marathon, with a complete sweep of the medals as Kennedy Kipyeko came first in 1:03:52, followed closely by John Muiruri Mburu (1:03:55) and Evans Kipkorir (1:04:12).

In the women's full marathon,  Muluhabt Tsega from Ethiopia claimed the gold medal, finishing the race in a time of 2:35:17, Kenya's Sharon Jemutai Cheron and Ethiopia's Amid Foyza Jemal were second and third respectively.

In the women's half marathon race, Kenya once again took control. Winfridah Moraa Moseti led the pack, winning the race with a time of 1:12:40.

Her compatriots Lilian Jepkemboi Lelei and Susan Chambai Aramisi secured the second and third positions respectively.
