Chepng'etich, Cheruiyot lead Prisons to national cross country

In the mixed relay team, Cheruiyot will be joined by Alex Ngeno and Kiprugut as well as women's trio of Penina Wangari, Chelang’at and Chepkirui.

• During the Athletics Kenya Prisons Cross-country Championships held at the Prisons Staff Training College on Saturday, Chepng’etich won the women’s senior 10km race in 32:53.06. 

• In the men’s senior 10km race, Isaiah Lasoi obliterated the strong field to win the race in 29:27.07 as Philemon Kosgei followed in 29:46.06. Geoffrey Korir settled for third place in 29:49.08.

A total of 22 athletes including two-time Chicago Marathon Ruth Chepng’etich and 2019 world 1500m champion Timothy Cheruiyot have been selected to represent the Prisons department at the national cross-country championships set for January 21.

During the Athletics Kenya Prisons Cross Country Championships held at the Prisons Staff Training College on Saturday, Chepng’etich won the women’s senior 10km race in 32:53.06.

World Under-20 3000m champion Betty Chelangat settled for second place in 33:02.08 as Rebecca Mwangi sealed the podium places in 34:10.02.

 The trio will be joined by Commonwealth 10,000m bronze medallist Sheila Chepkirui, Visiline Jepkesho and Beatrice Cheburet. Brilliant Chepkorir and Abigael Chelanga’t will also be in the mix in a quest for top honours.

In the men’s senior 10km race, Isaiah Lasoi obliterated the strong field to win the race in 29:27.07 as Philemon Kosgei followed in 29:46.06. Geoffrey Korir settled for third place in 29:49.08.

Others in the mix are Boaz Kiprugut, Peter Emase, William Matelong Peter Wanyoike,Gideon Kiplimo, Victor Chepkwony and Cornelius Kipkoech.
