Chepkirui confirms participation at Brasov 10K

Chepkirui will enjoy the company of Kenyan compatriots Esther Birundu, Faith Cherono, Sheila Jebiwot, Agnes Ngetich and debutant Veronica Loleo.

Commonwealth 5000m bronze medallist Sheila Chepkirui has confirmed participation at the Brasov Running Festival 10k in Romania slated for September 25.

Chepkirui is the fastest in the women's field with a personal best time of 29:46. The 2016 Africa 5000m champion has had a stellar season so far and hopefully, she’ll extend the hot streak in Brasov.

She won this year’s Berlin Half Marathon in 1:05:02. She also placed third at the Ras Al Khaimah Half Marathon and Adizero Road to Records 10k championships in respective times of 1:04:36 and 30:35.

Chepkirui will enjoy the company of Kenyan compatriots Esther Birundu, Faith Cherono, Sheila Jebiwot, Agnes Ngetich and debutant Veronica Loleo.

Cherono has a personal best time of 30:50 which she ran at the Adizero Road to Records 10k championships. She is also the winner of the 2022 10km of Lille competition.

Cherono placed third at the Birell Prague Grand Prix 10k in 30:56. At this year’s World 10k championships in Bengaluru, she placed fourth in 31:59.

The Kenyans will be competing against other elite athletes including Ethiopia’s Abreash Minsewo, who has a personal best time of 30:58.

Great Britain’s Elle Twentyman will also be in the race having a personal best time of 34:19.

Uganda’s Sarah Chelangát (31:11) and Bulgaria’s Devora Avramova (debutant), Stella Rutto (32:23), Adelina Panaet (32:45) and Liliana Dragomir (34:21) will also be in action.  

In the men’s elite field, Weldon Langat is the fastest with a personal best time of 27:21. He will be in the company of debutants Dennis Kibet, Isaac Kibet, Bernard Yegon, Josphat Kipkorir, Fredrick Yeko and Brian Kwemoi.
