In a race that was won by Ethiopia's Melkeneh Azize in 7:44.06, Felix Korir and Edwin Kimosong settled for second place and third place in respective personal best times of 7:47.86 and 7:49.82.

This adds on to Kenya's medal count to make it two silver medals and three bronze.

In the triple jump, Winnie Chepng'etich could not qualify for the final as she placed 11th, having jumped 12.69m.
