Walkers Wanyonyi, Gati stumble in Cali

This came after Wanyonyi was disqualified under TR 54.7.5-fourth red card (When Penalty zone used).

In Summary

• Gati finished distant 14th in 49:05.09 in a race that was won by Mexico’s Karla Serrano in 46:24.35. Japan’s Ai Ooyama placed second in 46:24.44 as Australia’s Olivia Sanders was third in 46:37.85.

• Wanyonyi and Gati stepped foot on track on Friday evening with the hope of bagging medals but their dreams went up in flames.

Defending Champion Heristone Wanyonyi failed to defend his 10,000m walk race final in the  World Under-20 Championships in Cali, Colombia. 

Wanyonyi's counterpart Margaret Gati also fizzled out in a disappointing finish.

This came after Wanyonyi was disqualified under TR 54.7.5 - fourth red card (when Penalty Zone used).

The race was won by Turkey’s Mazlum Demir in 42:36.02 as Algeria’s Ismail Behammouda placed second in 42:29.49. Turkey’s Hayrettin Yildiz came third in 43:07.95.  

Gati finished a distant 14th in 49:05.09 in a race that was won by Mexico’s Karla Serrano in 46:24.35.

Japan’s Ai Ooyama placed second in 46:24.44 as Australia’s Olivia Sanders was third in 46:37.85.
