Eldoret City Marathon to include wheelchair category next year

With Eldoret City Marathon is the highest paying event in Africa with winners pocketing Sh3.5 million.

Eldoret City Marathon will include a wheelchair category in next year's race as the organizers seek to attain international standards. 

Eldoret City Marathon race director Moses Tanui said they are keen on adding the wheelchair category to make the event all-inclusive. 

“As Eldoret City marathon, we want to make this event all-inclusive to make it more appealing to both local and international runners. We want to include everyone to ensure every cadre is catered for including the wheelchair race,” said two-time Boston Marathon champion. 

He said they are in consultation with the Kenya National Paralympic Committee (KNPC) as they seek to work on next year's programme.

“We need to come up with categories and give them enough time to train ahead of next year's event,” he explained.

He said other international marathons feature wheelchair races and Eldoret will not be an exception. With Eldoret City Marathon is the highest paying event in Africa with winners pocketing Sh3.5 million.
