The 2008 world junior 10,000m silver medalist Titus Mbishei believes a home win at the fourth leg of Athletics Kenya cross country series in Kapsokwony on Saturday will be the perfect welcome back to action after a long injury lay-off.

The 31-year old Mount Elgon native will be competing for the third time since a long struggle with a hip injury and expects multitude of fans to cheer him on at Kapsokwony High School.

“This will be my first time competing at my home ground since returning to action. The injury kept me out of competition for long but I want to assure you that I am now back in action with full swing,” Mbishei said.

Mbishei finished second at the Eldama Ravine Half Marathon early this month and at the second AK cross country event in Iten, Elgeyo Marakwet County, two weeks ago.

The 2011 Marseille 10km champion has underlined his intentions to build on this momentum on his way to glory.

“I will be returning home with the aim of running well now that I am fully healed from the hip injury,” he said.

Meanwhile, Western Region AK chairman Patrick Kipsang said they are expect a big field of athletes from within and without the county.

“This event has been attracting a big field and we are looking forward to a competitive race between the hosts and the visitors because of its nature of competition,” said Kipsang.

He pointed out that they have a strong relay team that will be anchored by Olympian Abel Kipsang, among others.

“We have great athletes from this region like Nancy Cherotich, Felix Kibet in the junior races, and Kipsang, among others who will be battling for the slots,” he added.
