Just two weeks after winning the 2021 Boston Marathon title, Diana Kipyogei is already dreaming of having another go at the race in April next year.

Boston marked Kipyogei's debut in the World Marathon Majors and she delivered the title despite being nowhere near the pre-race favourites.

She said the win has made her believe she has what it takes to even fight for selection in Team Kenya for the 2022 World Athletics Championships in Oregon or the Commonwealth Games next year.

"My focus is to retain the Boston title in April next year. It is also my dream to represent my country in the future. However, marathon runners are usually picked by time and I am not yet there," she said.

On October 11, Kipyegoi clocked in 2:24:25 to lead a Kenyan 1-2-3-4 podium sweep  in Boston with former world marathon champion Ednah Kiplagat finishing second in 2:25:09.

Former world cross country champion Mary Ngugi was third in 2:25:20, Monica Ngige fourth (2:25.32) while Ethiopian Netsanet Gudeta (2:26:09) closed the top five places.

Kipyogei made her debut at the 2019 Ljubljana Marathon, where she finished third, timing 2:22.08, followed by a win at the Istanbul marathon the same year.

This year, she failed to finish at the Prague Half Marathon after picking up an injury at the 20km mark.
