Kenya set to host World Cross Country invitational tour

This will be the second global cross country event to be held in Kenya after the 2007 World Cross Country Championship held in Mombasa.

After successfully hosting the World Under 20 Championships, Kenya has been selected as the venue for next year's World Cross Country Invitational Tour to be held in February. 

Athletics Kenya president Jack Tuwei said the federation haa started preparations for the one-day event, which will be held in Eldoret, on February 12. 

"We will sit down as a committee to look at the logistics involved to make the event a reality. We also need to review the rules and regulations so we can stage a memorable event," Tuwei said. 

This will be the second global cross country event to be held in Kenya after the 2007 World Cross Country Championship held in Mombasa. 

The one-day event at Mombasa Golf Club featured two senior and two junior events for men and women respectively as well as individual and team competition.

Tuwei said the planning committee will also look at the calendar of events to ensure minimal disruption to other events the federation has lined up for next year. 

The World Cross Country Invitational Tour continues the country's burgeoning reputation as a destination for global athletics events. 

Apart from hosting the World Under 20, Kenya is set to stage the second edition of the World Athletics Continental Tour — otherwise known as Kip Keino Classic — on September 18 at Moi Stadium, Kasarani.
