Jepkorir eyes Olympics after winning Nelson Mandela race

Jepkorir has a personal best of 66.56 minutes set during the World Half Marathon in Gdynia, Poland, where she finished ninth overall.

Brillian Jepkorir wants to represent Kenya in 10,000m at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games in July .

Speaking after winning the Nelson Mandela Half Marathon on Saturday in South Africa, the former Discovery Kenya cross country champion, said she is keen to be part of the Team Kenya to  Japan. 

After landing in the country on Sunday morning, the Iten-based runner said her  experience in South Africa was awesome and has boosted her morale to don the national colours again.

The reigning Boston Half Marathon champion won the Nelson Mandela race in 67:32 ahead of Ethiopia’s Sisay Alemaddis, who was timed at 68:04.

“It was a good experience winning the race on my debut in the South African competition,” she said. 

Jepkorir has a personal best of 66.56 minutes set during the World Half Marathon in Gdynia, Poland, where she finished ninth overall. Compatriot Peres Jepchirchir won the race in  a world record time.

She said she is keen to improve on her 4th place posted in 10,000m during the national trials for World Championships two years ago in Doha. "I want to train more to secure a good position for Olympics,” she added.
