Orca Swim Club dominated the Kiambu Aquatics Gala Dinner held on Tuesday evening with Myles Baraka being named Best Swimmer in the boys’ 10–11 years category after an outstanding year of race victories.
In the girls’ 10–11 years category, the award went to Orca’s Kendi Mwiti, while Ezra Muhia of Be A Pro Swimming Club was crowned best swimmer in the 18 years and above category.
Orca Swimming Club was named Team of the Year, and its head coach, Sila Kennedy, received the Coach of the Year award after guiding the team through a remarkable season.
Speaking during the ceremony, Orca coach Laureen Ouma praised her swimmers for their commitment and discipline throughout the season, expressing confidence that the club will return even stronger for the 2026/2027 campaign.
Kiambu Aquatics governor Gideon Kioko noted that the association has made significant progress in developing swimming within the county and affirmed their commitment to improving future competitions and nurturing young talent.
Outgoing Aga Khan Academy Sports Director Anthony Thairu, who served as the event’s chief guest, described the gala as a major milestone, noting that recognising athletes inspires them to pursue even greater success.
The event’s main sponsor, Genesis Sports Limited—a leading supplier of sports equipment and apparel—provided a Sh100,000 cash prize pool for the top-performing clubs.
Orca Swimming Club received Sh50,000, Aqua Shark Fin Swim Club took home Sh30,000, and Snook Swim Club earned Sh20,000.
Genesis Sports Limited Marketing Executive Fidel Juma announced that the company will double its sponsorship to Sh200,000 for the 2026/2027 season. He also encouraged more swimming clubs from the Nairobi Metropolitan and wider Mt. Kenya regions to register for the upcoming league.
The 2026/2027 Kiambu Aquatics Swimming League will officially kick off on August 28–29, with the Inter-Club Invitational Swimming Championship at Potterhouse Senior School.
