“We requested the game to be postponed until next year. Both clubs agreed to have the game played at a later date,” Onchong’a told the Star.
In a statement on their Facebook page, South Coast Pirates said the fixture is now likely to be played either on December 13 or February 7, 2026.
Kisii will now turn their attention to their next assignment against former Kenya Cup side Mwamba RFC, while the Pirates prepare for an away clash against Western Bulls in Kakamega.
Meanwhile, United States International University–Africa (USIU-A) have strengthened their squad ahead of the new Championship season.
Head coach Tom Lagat said the Martials have added 10 young players to bolster depth and energy before their opener against Zetech University’s Oaks on Saturday.
The new signings include Ugandan duo Daniel Iyang and Calvin Wasike, former Lenana School pair Joel Ochengo and Samuel Mogire, and Maseno School alumnus Livingstone Abok.
Also joining are Samuel Mbugua, Benjamin Juma, Kyle Nyangweso, Mark Kariuki and Emmanuel Isalano.
Lagat confirmed that Lenny Kiptoo and Neville Odongo have left the club. “We appreciate their contribution and wish them the best,” he said.
Looking ahead to their opening match, the coach expects a demanding contest. “Opening games are always tough, but we are prepared. Expect a disciplined, organised and competitive game from us. We want a strong start. We want to set the tone for the season.”
Lagat said last season’s narrow escape from relegation had provided valuable lessons.
“This year, our focus is consistency, improving how we manage crucial moments, and building a stronger identity,” he noted.
“We want to be in a more stable position and show clear growth throughout the campaign.”
He added that their positive pre-season — which included a run to the Impala Floodlit final, where they lost to JKUAT Cougars after beating Kenya Cup newcomers Daystar Falcons in the semis — showed the progress they hope to extend into the league.
Elsewhere in the KRU Championship on Saturday, former Kenya Cup sides Catholic Monks and Western Bulls meet at CUEA.
JKUAT Cougars host Mombasa RFC, Homeboyz face Mean Machine, and Mwamba RFC welcome newcomers NYS Spades.
