Kenya Aquatics will bring together swimming stakeholders in an inclusive forum on December 5 in Mombasa to chart the way forward for the sport.

The meeting will provide a platform for open discussion on key issues affecting swimming, including the review of the Kenya Aquatics calendar of events, the affiliation and registration of clubs, counties and athletes, the formation of an Athletes’ Commission, anti-doping awareness and compliance and other pertinent matters impacting the federation and its members.

The forum will be held alongside the National Short Course Championships in Mombasa, providing a unique opportunity for athletes, coaches, parents and officials to engage directly with the federation and contribute to the development of the sport.

Kenya Aquatics secretary general Collins Marigiri said, “The sport can only grow if we come together, listen to each other, and agree on a way forward to improve swimming in Kenya."

Marigiri reflected on a successful year for the federation, which hosted the Africa Zone 3 Championships and the Open Water Championships in Mombasa, and expressed optimism for 2026.

“We aim to provide our swimmers with greater exposure, more opportunities in international competitions, and the chance to bring home more medals,” he added.

He also highlighted plans to expand the federation’s focus beyond traditional swimming to include Water Polo, Artistic Swimming and Open Water Swimming, ensuring all aquatic disciplines receive attention and support.

Meanwhile, Kenya’s young swimming sensation Adia Mwende is preparing for the East Africa Chipukizi Swimming Championship in Arusha, scheduled for 19–21 December, having recently impressed with victories in the under-100 metre individual medley, clocking 1:56.92, and the girls’ under-9 25-metre freestyle, posting a time of 18.76 seconds.

Mwende’s performances have prompted Meru County, in collaboration with Meru Aquatics, to plan a swimming coaches’ clinic and a Meru Invitational Gala in January 2026.

Elias Murega, Meru County Executive Committee Member for Youth and Sports, emphasised that the county is committed to laying a strong foundation for sports development, ensuring that young talent like Mwende continues to thrive.
