Kenya Police Bullets / HANDOUT
Bungoma Queens will seek redemption when they meet Women Premier League champions Police Bullets at the Police Sacco Stadium on Sunday, head coach Godfrey Mabonga has said.

Mabonga believes his charges have what it takes to bounce back and stun the champions after settling for a barren draw with Kayole Starlets last weekend.

“They won 9–1 against Kisumu but they should know that we play a totally different game. They should expect fireworks,” said Mabonga.

“My squad is intact with only one inclusion, Immaculate Nanjala, who we acquired from Kisumu Girls’ High School. That gives us a good chance to gel. We will need to sign more players, but later.”

The result against Kayole left Bungoma with one win, one draw and two losses, a run Mabonga admits they must improve on to climb the table.

However, they face a tough test against a rejuvenated Police Bullets side that sits top of the log with 12 points, two ahead of second-placed Vihiga Queens.

Under new head coach David Vijago, who took over from Beldine Odemba a month ago, the law enforcers have hit good form.

Vijago, formerly of Kibera Soccer Ladies, believes they have the depth and discipline to defend their title despite injury setbacks.

“The girls started the season on a high note and I believe they are ready to face Bungoma,” said Vijago.

“Our match will not be a walk in the park because our opponents will aim to redeem themselves. I’m urging my players to stay focused and work hard."

"Unfortunately, we will miss Lucy Kwekwe and Rebecca Odato, who picked knocks in the last fixture, but we’ll replace them accordingly. We aim to retain the title. I believe we can achieve that if we keep winning.”

Meanwhile, Zetech Sparks host Vihiga Queens at Zetech University Grounds in Mang’u, Gideon Starlets face Kisumu All Starlets at the Raila Odinga Stadium in Homa Bay and Ulinzi Starlets welcome Trinity at Ulinzi Sports Complex on Saturday.

Sunday’s other fixtures will see Kisped Queens take on Soccer Assassins at Moi Stadium, Kisumu, while newcomers Kayole Starlets battle Kibera Soccer Women at Kasarani Annex.
