Trevor Omondi battles for the ball with Derrick Otieno of Shabana during a Premier League game at Gusii Stadium on Wednesday
Shabana coach Peter Okidi has tipped his side to bounce back to winning following their first loss of the season on Wednesday.
Shabana suffered a 2-1 loss against Posta Rangers in a midweek clash at Gusii Stadium on Wednesday. Coach Okidi attributed the loss to the injuries of eight key players and lapses in concentration.
"It was a painful loss for us as the technical bench, players, and fans. The way we lost hurts. However, we must bounce back in our next match. We didn't have eight key players, but the ones who played gave a good account of themselves," added Okidi.
Shabana were set to host Mathare United on Sunday, but the game has been postponed in honour of former PM Raila Odinga, who died on Wednesday.
Posta Rangers coach Sammy Omollo hailed Shabana fans for giving him a warm welcome.
"We controlled the game. We had chances, and Shabana also had chances, including the penalty. At the end of the day, we emerged as winners," noted Omollo.
He added, "I'm happy the way my players performed and lifted the team to the top of the table."
The tactician, however, said he can't put players and himself under pressure to challenge for the title. "We will try, but at the moment, we welcome any point we get. It's a marathon and it needs finances," noted the coach.
With four games unbeaten and top of the table, he said the win against Shabana will give his players added impetus.
During the game, Brian Mariita and Trevor Teddy were on target for the mailmen, while Shabana's consolation was scored in added time by Victor Omondi.
Earlier in the second half, Kevin Omundi saw his penalty saved by the former Shabana goalkeeper Fredrick Otinda.
Before the game, the players marked a minute of silence in honour of former PM Raila Odinga, who died on Wednesday.
