Impala RFC will be seeking to bounce back for the Kabeberi Sevens slated for this weekend at the RFUEA ground.

The Louis Kisia charges had a weekend to forget at the Embu Sevens, finishing 13th, and the head coach attributed it to injuries before the tournament.

"We lost Matoka Matoka, Trevor Opondo, and Quinto Ongo, who are key players on the eve of the event, leaving us with a squad of 10 players for the tournament. This was a real tall order, and a good number of the players who played were fringe players, and we finished 13th overall”

In the four tournaments played, Impala bagged five points each at the Driftwood and Prinsloo Sevens, while their best performance came at the Christie Sevens, where they reached the quarterfinals and finished sixth overall before bagging three points in Embu.

Impala face a tall order in Kabeberi, where they face title chasers Strathmore and rivals Quins and Mwamba in Group B, which is arguably the pool of death.

Kisia said his charges are unfazed with the pooling. "We will take it one game at a time. Sevens is unpredictable, and everyone in the pool is fighting for something. So it will boil down to execution.

“He added that the target is to get out of the pool and qualify for the quarters. Log leaders KCB are in Pool A, where they face Nakuru Mean Machine and Mombasa Sports Club.

Pool C will see Masinde Muliro University face off against Daystar Falcons and former giants Homeboyz. Oilers and Kabras will renew their rivalry with Embu and Kisumu RFC.

The top two teams in each pool qualify for the quarterfinals. The final tournament is slated for Dala sevens on September 13-14 in Kisumu.
