Gambia head coach Jonathan McKinstry has issued strong warnings to his squad ahead of the encounter with Kenya.

“Kenya is strong and passionate, and their fans can be overwhelming. We have prepared well and we will fight to the last minute,” he said.

McKinstry highlighted the need for mental toughness to counter Kenya’s energy and fast transitions.

“Our players must stay focused and disciplined. The Stars will push hard, but we are ready to match them with organised defence and quick breaks,” he added.

He also noted the challenge of playing in front of Kasarani’s home crowd, describing it as a “partial advantage” for Kenya that his team must overcome with determination.

“The atmosphere will be intense, but we have trained to maintain concentration under pressure. Every player knows the stakes, and we will battle until the final whistle,” McKinstry stated.

The upcoming qualifiers present high stakes for both sides. Kenya faces Gambia on Friday and Seychelles on Tuesday, with McCarthy stressing that every minute will count. “Our team must maximise points in these matches.

Every goal counts, and every game is a chance to move up the table,” he said. The Stars aim to leverage their home advantage and team cohesion, while scouting future talents such as Onyango and Vyner to strengthen the squad for upcoming challenges.

Group F is competitive, with Cote d'Ivoire leading on 1 6points, followed by Gabon with fifteen, Burundi with ten, and Kenya with six. While Gambia and Seychelles occupy lower positions in the standings, McCarthy and his players know that complacency is dangerous.

“We cannot underestimate any opponent. Gambia is tactical, Seychelles are compact, and our focus must remain on execution and discipline,” he noted. McKinstry reinforced the challenge Kenya presents, saying his players are prepared to face a relentless attack.

“Kenya will push hard, but we are prepared physically and mentally. We aim to be organised defensively and capitalise on any opportunity to counter,” he said. He also stressed that his squad will give their all to secure positive results.

“We are motivated and will fight until the last whistle. Every player is ready to give 100 per cent,” he added, showing respect for Kenya while affirming his team’s determination. Gambia will look up to Yankuba Minteh, who plays as a right winger for Premier League club Brighton & Hove Albion.
