
National champions Tigoi Girls continued with their winning streak after a 2-0 victory over Uganda’s Kakungulu Memorial in the ongoing Federation of East African Secondary Schools Sports Association (FEASSSA) Games at Mukumu Boys
Lavender Philly and Tracy Ilaha scored for Tigoi. Nyanza region champions Ng’iya recorded their first win of the championship after a 2-0 win over Uganda’s Bweranyangi.
Lucy Akoth and Quincy Akinyi scored for George Nyadida’s charges. Ng’iya held regional champions St Joseph’s, Kitale, to a barren draw in the opening game. St. Joseph’s Girls Kitale, coached by John Lusaka, walloped Uganda’s Namagunga 8-0. Joy Iminza grabbed a hat-trick while Audrey Grener and Mary Adhiambo scored twice each.
Lusaka said, “Round robin format is a marathon, not a sprint. We are going to beat every team ahead of us. The girls are in good shape. We are comfortable, and we are going for the trophy.”
Elizabeth Mapesa wrapped up the scores for St Joseph’s in the game that was played at Mukumu Boys.
In the boys’ hockey, national and East Africa champions Musingu High got their campaign back on track after drubbing Ntare School 3-0. Musingu High suffered a 1-0 defeat against Kakungulu Memorial. St Anthony’s Kitale battled to a 2-2 draw against Kakungulu Memorial.
Kevin Onyango and Delvin Luganyi scored for St Antony's Kitale while Shafique Byamukama and Daki Yusuf replied for Kakungulu Memorial. St Charles Lwanga beat Kyadondo 4-0 while MPesa Academy lost 2-0 against Uganda’s Mbarara High. St Joseph’s Boys’ Kitale started their hunt for the regional title after walloping Mpanda 6-0 in a one-sided match.
In girls’ football, three-time champions Butere and Nasokol recorded their first wins of the championship. Butere Girls defeated Tanzania’s Fountain Gate 4-1. Lorna Faith, Metrine Kitavi, Patience Asiko, and Christine Ferrine scored for Butere.
Nasokol drubbed B.S.S Huye from Rwanda 4-0 in another encounter. Madira Girls also picked up their first win of the campaign. They hit Alliance from Tanzania 3-0, thanks to strikes from Vivian Amondi, Weey Atieno, and Leah Nekesa.
In girls’ volleyball, it was a good day for Kenyan schools as they recorded wins in their Saturday games. National champions Kwanthanze edged Rwanda’s Kamonyi 3-0 (25-18, 25-18, 25-13) while Bishop Sulumeti also had a 3-0 (25-23, 25-19, 25-14) win over Manahunzi from Tanzania. Soweto Academy saw off Kajunjumele 3-0 (25-11, 25-15, 25-11).
In girls’ netball, defending champions St Mary’s Kitende edged Hamdani Islamic 42-19 in an Uganda derby, while Buddo SS showed little mercy for Rwanda’s Gahini by thrashing them 84-7. Uganda’s St. Noa Girls humbled Tanzania’s Luzoto secondary 56-23 at Masinde Murilo University of Science and Technology (MMUST).
