National Super League (NSL) side Luanda Villa tactician Gilbert Selebwa believes bench power and financial muscle will be key in the ongoing transfers window ahead of the 2024/2025 season set to kick off on August 31.
However, Selebwa said his priority at the moment is to elevate Luanda Villa to the Kenya Premier League at the end of the 2024/2025 NSL season.
The only way this dream can be achieved is by having strong bench power and financial strength to sustain the players.
“All teams in the NSL will be chasing promotion but the determining factor will be the bench power and finances,” he said.
“With finances, I can pick the players I want without going through trials but the circumstances around make me go for trials,” he said.
Speaking at Mumboha grounds, the tactician said they have parted ways with 13 players ahead of the new season.
Some other casualties are —Johnstone Alushula, Jacob Okumu, Morgan Munala, Cleophas Baraza and Moses Masinde.
Others are—Ezekiel Owino, Victor Baraka, Pheniahs Omukatu, Humphrey Maungu, Michael Indieka, Baxton Ndiya, Emmanuel Juma and Rajab Kagota.
He said “The club’s management is currently working on some transfers and we expect the players to link up with the rest in training before the season kicks off on August 31.
“The players we released are not bad but the level of experience in National Super League is still very low. We need players who can compete at the highest level,” he noted.
The coach said it is only prudent for any team that gets a promotion to boost their squad with new and qualify players. “We hope this will happen here,” he said.
