Leading drivers Jasmeet Chana aka Iceman and Samman Vohra will be among the star attractions in Nanyuki Rally which will revolve around Ole Naishu and Batian View this weekend.

Jasmeet, who clinched the championship in a Mitsubishi Evolution X last year, will drive his new Ford Fiesta R5

The new Fiesta was shipped into the country just before the Easter holidays and due to its late arrival, Chana was compelled to skip the Safari Rally.

The new Fiesta will see Chana compete on an equal footing with his R5 opponents in the event which will count towards the third round of the Kenya National Rally Championship. “I have entered Nanyuki and I will drive my new car,” said Jasmeet.

Among those headed to Nanyuki include Ian Duncan, Ghalib Haji, winner of season opening Eldoret Rally, Shakeel Khan of Team ALS and Joey Ghose.

The event will start at Cedar Mall in Nanyuki and finish at Batian View. The Service Park will be situated in Batian View which will also double up as the designated spectator stage.

According to organiser Nazir Yakub, three stages will be run in the event—two on Ole Naishu Ranch and one at Batian View—close to the Service Park. KNRC entries will do six stages while drivers in the  Clubman’s category will only do the second loop of three stages.

Yakub said: “We intend to allow the Clubman entrants a recce on Friday so they can make notes for Saturday rally.”

The KNRC has been to Eldoret for the opening round and the WRC Safari which featured a national championship category over Easter holidays.

This year’s KNRC has been reduced to eight rounds after the ARC Equator Rally was combined with the season-closing Guru Nanak Rally.

Carl Tundo currently leads the series with 39 points followed by Samman Vohra on 33, Minesh Rathod (290 and Jasmeet Chana (26).
