Malkia Strikers plan to play two friendly matches in the Philippines to bolster their preparations for the 2024 Challenger Cup set for July 1-7.

Kenya Volleyball Federation (KVF) technical director Paul Bitok said the team will face Galaries Tower High Risers women's club in their first friendly and a men's local club.

"We are also negotiating to have a friendly against Argentina or Vietnam even if it's after the Challenger Series. This will be crucial for the Paris Olympic preparation," he added.

He added: "Argentina and Vietnam are not in our group and we will be happy to play one of them before Paris," Bitok emphasised.

The team is slated to leave for the Philippines on June 29. Bitok expressed satisfaction with the team's progress, citing the high competition among players.

Bitok said they have 16 players in camp and will drop three players early next week before departing for the Philippines.

After the Challenger Cup, Malkia Strikers will head to Team Kenya Olympic Camp at Miramas for further training and acclimatisation ahead of the Paris Olympics.

Bitok stressed the importance of maintaining a full squad of 16 players for training until the final team is named on July 26.

Assistant captain and KCB middle blocker Edith Wisa said this will be the second Olympics for her after the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

" It will be good to feature in an Olympic away from restrictions ad it was the case in Tokyo, which was held during the Covid lockdown," she noted.
