The Ministry of Education has raised the alarm over the use of ineligible players during the ongoing secondary schools' Term Two games in Nyanza.

Regional Director of Education Lawrence Karuntimi said principals will be held responsible for such irregularities.

The Term Two games feature football, rugby 7s, handball, basketball 3x3 and netball.

“Information reaching this office indicates that during the ongoing secondary schools' Term Two games, some teams have been found culpable of fielding non-secondary school players. Any school that will be found guilty of this offence shall be penalised,” said Karuntimi.

In a circular to County Education Directors on Monday, Karuntimi directed the CDEs, principals and Sub County officers to be on the lookout for the schools fielding non-students and take action.

“All teams should comprise bonafide students registered on the MoE’s NEMIS with corresponding photos,” said Karuntimi.

The games enter the county level on Thursday.

In Migori County, the event will be held at Kubweye Mixed Secondary School in Mabera, said County Secondary Schools Sports Association Secretary George Kichana.

Kisumu County championship will also be at Maseno School from Thursday through Saturday.

The Nyamira County championships will be at Kiendege Secondary School from June 18 to 21 according to secretary Hesboniah Okerio while the Siaya County games will be at Chianda School on the same dates.

Homa Bay School will host the Homa Bay competition from June 21 to 23 according to the secretary Gerald Onyango.

Separately, the Kisii County championship slated for June 18 to 21 has been moved from Nyachogochogo Secondary to Nduru Boys' and Nduru Girls', according to Secretary Geoffrey Nyantika.

“After a comprehensive pre-visit assessment by a team of sub county secretaries, the Nyachogochogo secondary school playground was found to be unplayable due to the rains that rocked the region in the recent past," said Nyantika.

"The situation is further aggravated by the unpredictable weather patterns."
