Kenyan teams continued their dismal showing at the FIBA Africa Zone 5 U18 Championships at the Lugogo Indoor Arena in Kampala, Uganda, on Tuesday.
The boys fell 86-56 to unbeaten Uganda, who were roared on by their supporters.
Uganda, who top the four-team pool with a clean run, face winless Tanzania in the semis while the Kenyan youngsters will battle second-placed Rwanda on Thursday.
“We have been away for quite some time. We are playing catch-up. We will be back,” said Kenyan coach Martin Okwako.
The Kenyans suffered an 81-52 defeat to Rwanda and beat Tanzania 95-81.
The girls went down 56-47 to Rwanda after trailing 21-9 and 17-16 in the opening two quarters.
After the breather, Kenya, in an effort to change the tide, pushed close 14-15 in the third before taking the last 8-3.
Violet Atieno nailed 15 points and Valentine Korir bagged 10 for the Kenyans. Bridget Nibishaka led Rwanda with 27.
This loss followed a 97-45 defeat to Uganda the previous day. Kenya downed Tanzania 57-47 in their only win on Sunday.
The girls play Rwanda as leaders Uganda confront Tanzania.
Tanzanian teams’ losing run continued when the boys went down 85-43 to Rwanda while the girls were whipped 103-48 by Uganda. Wednesday is a rest day.
