Nairobi Titans became the first team to win a match in the inaugural Nairobi Provincial Cricket Association (NPCA) Women’s League which started over the weekend at Ruaraka Sports Club.

Buoyed by Sajni Shah, Mirali Fof and Yesha Desai, the Titans beat Silver Cheetah by eight wickets in the opening match of the weekend as teams took to the crease for the NPCA maiden women’s league which has attracted eight women's teams.

Despite their loss to the Titans, Silver Cheetahs produced the Most Valuable Player (MVP) in Nisha Kerai (not out), who was also the match’s top scorer with 33 runs off 31 deliveries.

The Cheetahs won the toss and opted to bat first, scoring 84 for 1 in 20.0 overs. In reply, the Titans carried the day with 85 for two in only 8.0 overs.

But Titans' captain and opener Akshi Shah could only manage nine runs off nine balls before being caught out by Anshi Bhanderi.

Fof, on the other hand, scored 13 runs off 21 balls before being caught out by Dhrum Rabadia.

After the match, Titans' batter Sajni Shah said: “It was a good pitch. We batted second and won.

"The ball was not hitting the boundaries but we tried to get as many runs as possible.

"We got a couple of wides, but overall, it was a good game. It feels good to start the league with a win and we hope to keep that energy going forward.”

Asked what the team’s strategy will be going forward, Sajni said: “We have to work on our bowling. I honestly feel we gave away many wides but we will try to remedy the situation in the next few games. We’ll try working on our batting too and get a few boundaries. There here were none in this game, but yes, we will keep the same spirit moving forward.”

Most Valuable Player, Nisha Kerai on her part said: “Unfortunately, we didn’t do good bowling. It was very hard, but then again, we live to fight another day. We will have to improve on our bowling and fielding.”
