Kenyan swimmers set for elite training camp in South Africa next month

Owiti said the camp promises not only rigorous training but also an environment of learning and growth.

Kenyan swimmers have an opportunity to be part of the Elite Training swimming Camp slated for July 1-5 in Cape Town, South Africa. 

The training camp will take place at the University of Western Cape and athletes will engage in intensive training, featuring two pool and gym sessions each day.

Additionally, the camp will offer a series of lectures designed to help athletes prepare mentally for international competitions.

Kenya Aquatics president, Maureen Owiti, emphasised the importance of the initiative, saying: "This training camp represents a significant investment in the future of African swimming. By providing our top athletes with access to world-class training and resources, we are giving them the tools they need to excel on the global stage," added Owiti. 

The specialised training camp targets those who have achieved or are close to achieving qualifying times for events such as the Olympics, Junior World Championships and World Short Course Championships.

Owiti said the camp promises not only rigorous training but also an environment of learning and growth. 

Participating athletes are required to arrive on June 30 and depart on July 6. For additional participants, a cost of $120( Sh15,600 per person per night for shared) and $160( 20,800) per person per night for single accommodation is required. 

This fee covers full board and transfers from the airport to the hotel. Owiti urged those interested to complete and submit their application and thereafter, the selection process will follow.
