The National Olympics Committee of Kenya (NOC-K) has partnered with Deloitte Kenya to streamline the federations' operations before, during and after the Paris Olympic games.

The Nock hope the partnership will provide accountability and transparency to avoid a repeat of the scandal that plagued Team Kenya at the 2016 Rio Olympics.

During the 2016 Olympics, Kenya's camp was entangled in chaos, including disorganised travel, mishandling of training kits, questionable slot allocation in the Olympic village, doping-related bribery, and the embezzlement of Sh25.6 million.

Some top Nock officials faced court charges following the scandal.

Nock treasurer Anthony Kariuki emphasised the significance of the partnership as the Paris Games loom.

Kariuki said: "This partnership is crucial for our athletes to train comfortably and focus on their performance, knowing they will be well-supported at the Olympics. We are constantly reminded of the Rio scandal and are determined to do better."

Despite the scandals, Kenya's athletes performed admirably in Rio, securing 13 medals—six gold, six silver and one bronze—finishing 15th overall.

"The medal standings speak volumes about our athletes' commitment. As an institution, we must ensure they are properly supported," added Kariuki.

With better organisation, he said, the athletes will produce amicable results.

Nock president Paul Tergat underscored the partnership's importance in enhancing governance.

"This strategic partnership with Deloitte, which focuses on business and management consulting, will strengthen our governance efforts to provide world-class services benefiting our athletes and the broader sporting community," Tergat said.

Since taking office, Tergat and his team have prioritised corporate governance to restore Nock's integrity nationally and globally.

"Our main objective has been to transform the Committee fully with a particular focus on governance," Tergat added.

Secretary general Francis Mutuku said: “We have a partnership with Deloitte Kenya to support our management structures and how we run our systems. To ensure we are running our systems to international standards we target partnerships with those aligned to our vision as an institution."

They have been successful in their endeavours.

“One key indicator of our success lies in our ability to restore, establish and grow relationships and partnerships with those aligned with our vision as an institution,” added Mutuku.

Deloitte East Africa CEO Ann Muraya said the partnership builds on Deloitte's two-decade history with the Olympics and its appointment as the world's Olympic partner through 2032.

"Collaborations with NOC-K will enhance confidence among partners, stakeholders and athletes, advancing the future of sports in Kenya,” she said.
