Kenya Ports Authority dominated Mt. Kenya Baseyetu  3-0 (25-16, 25-15, 25-12) in the Kenya Volleyball Federation league fourth leg at the Nyayo Stadium on Sunday.

KPA captain Dennis Omollo said defence and service were key in their triumph.

“Our services and defence were strong, on the front and back courts. We have always trained hard knowing each team is equal to the task,” he said.

KPA is no stranger to playoff contention.

“This is not the first time we are proceeding to the playoffs. We target to finish on top. We are tired of second,” he said.

Despite the loss, Baseyetu coach Vejerina King’aru remained optimistic.

“This is a young boys team. We are privileged to play in Division 1 as well as in an indoor arena. Most of my players were having exams. I had just eight. They are also short compared to KPA, but height doesn’t really matter a lot in sports,” King’aru stated.

She expressed hopes for the future, aiming for a top 10 finish next season and the possibility of securing sponsors to boost the team.

“Our players are good. If they get poached by the big teams, well and good.”

Trailblazers bounced back with a convincing 3-0 (25-14, 25-23, 25-19) win over Rift Valley Prisons.
