MMUST, KU and Kisii dominate University Games in Kakamega

Head coach Robert Osano said the last time they won the title was in 2021.

The hosts beat Rongo 20-15 while Daystar were 18-14 winners against KU in the semifinals.

The hosts won both the men's and women's volleyball titles. They capitalised on the home advantage to beat Kirinyaga University 3-1 (21-25, 25-14, 25-15 and 2-15) for the women's title.

Coach Kevin Mulinya said the victory came after hard training. “We have been preparing for this for many years and I am happy with the results," he said adding that they were placed fourth last year. University of Nairobi beat Maseno 3-1 (22-25, 25-17, 25-22 and 25-19) to take home the bronze. 

The men's team beat Chuka University 3-1 (25-14, 22-25, 25-18 and 25-180 to lift the crown. Kisii and KU won the women's and men's netball titles.

Kisii beat Mt. Kenya University  44-41 to win the women's title after extra time play following a 35-35 stalemate at the final whistle. On the other hand,  KU men beat Kisii 31-21 for the title.

Julius Chiunda’s last-minute shot handed Kenyatta University men's handball title as the Kenya Universities Sports Federation Games concluded on Sunday at the Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST).

With the match tied at 22-22 against the champions, the University of Eldoret, Chiunda capitalised on the foul outside box, to beat the keeper and win 23-22 just before the whistle. 

Head coach Robert Osano said the last time they won the title was in 2021. In the playoffs, Kisii beat Egerton 21-14 for the bronze medal. In the semifinals, the champions defeated Egerton 17-12 while UOE were 23-15 winners against Kisii.

Competing in the first season, Kamau said the team has maintained an unbeaten run from their conference matches to the national.

“Last season, we finished seventh at the conference and this forced us to go back to the drawing board. I am happy our hard work has paid off,” said Kamau.
