Madira Soccer Assassins’ head coach Francis Muhame has attributed their 4-1 defeat against Kenya Police Bullets to a lack of experience.
He said they were no match to their opponents’ experience hence the difference in results at Mumboha grounds.
Becky Okwaro scored a hat-trick while Mercy added a goal to seal the win. Charity Midewa scored the only goal for the assassins.
Muhambe said his key mandate is to ensure the KWPL debutants are saved from relegation. “We want to stay in the KWPL so that the experience we gain this season can help us next season,” he said.
He said they are currently scouting for experienced players in a bid to strengthen the team and avoid relegation.
Bullets coach Beldine Odemba said Madira Soccer Assassins’ are not to be underrated because, on a good day, they can rise to the occasion.
“Most of these girls are in my national Under-20 team and I know what they are capable of. This is why I came prepared for a tough match,” Odemba said.
“I am happy we were able to secure the three points. Now the focus turns on the next match against Bungoma Queens at Sudi Stadium,” she added.
In another match, KWPL Vihiga Queens were held to a 2-2 draw by hosts Ulinzi Starlets.
Siliya Rasoha and Cindy Ngaira scored for Ulinzi while Tumaini Waliaula and Martha Amunyolete were on target for Vihiga.
"The draw has pushed us back into the struggle with our opponents in KWPL," said Vihiga Queens coach Boniface Nyamunyamu.
"We had good opportunities but we failed to utilize them properly," he added. Ulinzi head coach Joseph Wambua blamed his defense for the draw.
"We were favourite to seal the match but a few mistakes from the defence cost us the win," Wambua said.
Elsewhere, Bungoma Queens lost to Kibera Ladies 4-5 at Sudi Stadium while Bunyore Starlets were given a walkover after Gaspo failed to show up.
