Ulinzi Starlets head coach Joseph Wambua says he is on a mission to topple the current league leader Vihiga Queen.

He said securing three points against Bunyore Starlets at their Mumboha backyard last weekend, was key to his mission to win this year’s league.

"My mission is to ensure we topple the 2022/2023 Kenya Women’s Premier League champions Vihiga Queens,” Wambua said.

“This season my target is to win the KWPL title and this we must do at all costs,” he added. Syliya Rasoha scored the lone goal for Ulinzi Starlets.

On the other hand, Bunyore coach Timothy Ondeko admitted that they had lost hope in chasing the league title. Bunyore have lost four matches in a row in the league which started in September.

They first went down against Bungoma Queens 3-2 at Sudi Stadium in Bungoma before losing to Vihiga Queens 4-2 at Mumboha.

They then succumbed to Wadadia Ladies in Mumias 4-3 and their latest loss was the 1-0 defeat against Ulinzi Starlets at Mumboha. “We were no match for Ulinzi Starlets in this match because they came well-prepared,” Ondeko said. Ondeko said his defence was a bit slow and did little to stop their opponents.

In another match, Madira Soccer Assassins succumbed to Wadadia Ladies 3-0 at Mumboha with coach Francis Muhame blaming their financial situation as the key reason for their defeat. A goal from Laura Atabira, Cilia Mikisi, and Tabitha Barasa killed the Assassins

He said: “We need experienced players in the league but the financial situation has left them to rely heavily on the school-going girls who lack experience,” he added.

In the other matches, Vihiga Queens suffered a major setback after being held to a 2-2 draw with Bungoma Queens at Sudi Stadium.

Zetech Spark ended their three-match-win-less run by thrashing Kibera Soccer Ladies 2-1.
