Western Jaguars midfielder Bethuel Masambu believes there's more to come from him after becoming a regular player both at the club and national team levels.

The 23-year-old who plays as a forward for the national men's hockey team, has established himself as one of the country's go-to players after breaking into the national team set up last year during the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

He was part of the team to the Africa Olympic qualifiers in South Africa where Kenya failed to book a slot to the quadrennial championship.

The former Mang'u High School alumnus was a mainstay in the Jaguars' team that charged to the finals of the Africa Cup for Club Championships played in Blantyre, Malawi, last month-as the Mike Malungu-coached side finished second, also in their second appearance at the annual showpiece.

"I have witnessed tremendous improvement in the last couple of years. From being a rookie when joining Jaguars to establishing myself as an international player speaks volumes of my growth," the energetic, all-action midfielder who scored one goal for the Kakamega-based side in Malawi, said.

"I am only getting started. I have the attributes not only to become the best player in the country but also I intend to win as many caps as possible. My dream has always been to become an Olympian. So far so good but I have to remain levelheaded to reach dizzying heights in my budding career."

Masambu said he is inspired by Butali Warriors' attacking midfielder Moses Ademba whom he described as one of the best players in the country because of his quality and calm nature on and off the field.

"Ademba is my idol because he is a genius with the hockey stick in his hands. He oozes class and dictates proceeding on the field. His style of play is similar to mine. Skilwise, I am his carbon copy. His down-to-earth demeanor makes him a sociable human being and easy to interact with," he said.

"At the international level, Dayaan Cassiem, a South African international is my idol. I had the opportunity to talk to him and seek advice from him."

"My finishing and decision-making need refining but the future is bright. The exposure has come with added experience and we can now dream of challenging for the national league title," the soft-spoken player hinted.
