Sports Cabinet Secretary Ababu Namwamba has said plans are underway for the completion and redesigning of Kamariny Stadium in Iten, Elgeyo Marakwet County.
Speaking during an inspection tour in the company of Roads CS Kipchumba Murkomen and Elgeyo Marakwet Governor Wesley Rotich on November 14, the CS said that preparations were at an advanced stage for the completion of an elite high-altitude training camp around the stadium.
''We are going to do Kamariny in a bigger way than before. As I have already announced, we are building an elite training facility, and that elite facility will be constructed around the stadium. So, we will have a stadium and a training center around the same time," Ababu said.
Further, CS Ababu announced that his ministry will commence the renovation of the Iten sports grounds to raise its standards to a level that will offer the region’s sportsmen and women a platform to continue developing their talents.
This, he said is in line with the government's TalantaHela initiative whose aim is to identify, nurture and monetize talents to build sustainable livelihoods through sports.
"Elgeyo Marakwet County was the Home of Kenya’s number branding assets that deserved a proper sporting environment to aid the development and nurturing of talents," Ababu said on platform X.
"Special appreciation to the leaders and people of Nandi, Uasin Gishu, Elgeiyo Marakwet and Bungoma Counties. Three days of truly fruitful engagements. Kongoi. Sande sana!"
Ababu, earlier this week also revealed that the Chemoge high altitude training center in Mt. Elgon, Bungoma County will be upgraded to a full-fledged Satellite Academy under the Kenya Academy of Sports.
Meanwhile, the CS was at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport on Wednesday morning to see off the Harambee Stars team headed for Gabon for the 2026 World Cup qualifier clash set for Thursday.
