Sports Administrator and Murang'a Seal chairman, Hussein Mohammed has urged players to focus on performance that will attract sponsorship.
This advice follows a lunch hosted by Mohammed for the players before their match against Gor Mahia this evening.
Mohammed highlighted the financial challenges many clubs face, emphasising the difficulty in sustaining clubs due to various costs.
“It has become an extremely difficult environment to operate in. From travel costs, salaries/allowances, referees’ payment, hire of venue to safety and security, it is becoming impossible for officials and well-wishers to sustain their beloved clubs,” said Mohammed.
The lunch served as an opportunity for the chairman to engage with players, discussing the club's development strategy and welfare.
Mohammed stressed that revenue streams will open up with evidence of return on investment and good governance in football.
“I urge organizations behind institutional clubs to consider sponsoring their teams as community clubs,” he added. “This is the only way you can build a strong brand in football.”
Muranga Seal, in a statement, called for the amendment to the Sports Act 2013.
“As we speak, it is impossible to register a privately owned sports entity with the Registrar of Sports. This stifles investment, competition, and ultimately the growth of such entities,” the club said in a statement.
