Ulinzi Sharks' coach Nickson Oyaro is impressed with his girls’ teamwork as they continue to lead the Kenya Handball Federation (KHF) league table.

Current champions Nairobi Water Queens have dominated the local handball for over a decade but the soldiers seem determined to change the narrative going by their performance so far.

“I attribute our surge to the top to patience and teamwork,” noted Oyaro adding, “This team has proven over the past weeks that they do not depend on a single individual player to win games.”

The tactician was talking after his girls thrashed Rangers 50-11 in a league clash at Nyayo National Stadium on Sunday with eight different players on the score sheet.  Sarah Wasile led the tally with eight goals.

The race for the title once again is proving to be a three-horse race as Ulinzi lead the table with 14 points from seven games. Both Ulinzi and champions Water Queens, who have 12 points, remain unbeaten.

Former national champions National Cereals and Produce Board (NCPB) who whipped Rising Star 50-28 are third on 12 points having lost one game to Ulinzi. They led 21-8 in that win.

They were led in that win by Rolyne Awino and Sarah Mabonga as the duo bagged seven goals. Sheila Atsahi registered a game-high 12 goals for the losers.

Men's  champions, National Cereals, and Produce Board punished Young City 51-15. The Bryan Mathews-coached Millers are in second position with 16 points from eight games. They trail leaders Ulinzi who have 18 from nine games.

Newcomers Equity Bank are third on 16 points after they thrashed Kenyatta University 42-18.  Jefferson Oketch shot seven goals. And Francis Njoroge and Brian Kithnji had six each.

General Service Unit (GSU) are placed fourth with 14 points. The paramilitary team are also unbeaten, making this year's men’s title race also one to watch.
