The Kenya Handball Federation (KHF) league will resume this weekend with 12 matches on the card.
KHF fixtures coordinator, George Asimeto, said the break gave teams time to sort themselves out and it is now all systems go.
“We have many teams in the league that have parents who needed to sort their kids after schools resumed,” said Asimeto.
“That break was important for everybody and I believe when we start the league, we will be able to go all the way uninterrupted.”
National Cereals and Produce Board and Nairobi Water Queens, who are the current champions in the men’s and women’s categories, will be in action.
Unbeaten NCPB, who trail leaders Ulinzi and second-placed General Service Unit with eight points, have a game against Spartan while Water Queens take on New Hope and Amazon in easy matches. Queens have six points and also lie third behind Ulinzi Sharks and NCPB.
Asimeto said two more teams—Nanyuki and Buccaneers Juniors—have joined the league, pushing the number to 25 teams.
Nanyuki will have two matches against Spartan and Young City. Buccaneers Juniors have an early encounter with their senior team.
In a related development, Wakanda tactician Fenwick Opicho is convinced his boys will be a tough team in a few months to come.
Placed bottom of the table in the 23-team league, Opicho said he is working hard and expects to post his first win in four weeks.
The tactician said he wants to build Wakanda, which comprises St. Luke Kimilili Boys students, into a formidable force. They have lost all their 11 matches played so far.
“In the next three months, it will be a tough team,” said Opicho, who helped shape national school champions Hospital Hill.
“I wasn’t so happy about the loss because I know their capability. Some are shy playing against clubs so it makes them feel Inferior but the good side is, they are gaining the courage.”
He said the team that joined the league to gain experience and not to stay idle, are young and will play for the next two years.
