Ulinzi coach Nickson Oyaro was left scratching his head following a narrow 29-27 win over Engineers in a tight Kenya Handball Federation league clash at Nyayo Stadium on Sunday.

Oyaro said their conversion was wanting as they missed numerous chances.

“Our conversion was not good at all. We were unable to connect on many of our chances and that was the difference,” said Oyaro.

“But we are a more superior side and I knew would win in the end. We know each other well. We will work hard to rectify our mistakes.”

Abel Weru led the scoring charts with eight goals while Noah Cheruiyot added five for the winners. Boniface Mubara hit eight, Nelson Kibiwott added seven and Samuel Waiganjo managed six for Engineers.

Albert Mukoya had locked the duel 26-26 before two late strikes by Noah Cheruoyot sealed the hard-earned win.

“We gave it our all. My boys played really well and worked hard. The difference was on the bench. They have a very strong bench power,” said Engineers coach Musa Onukonyi.

It was double win for Ulinzi as women’s side Sharks ripped Amazon 47-24 to make it two wins. Martha Lavenda led the charge with 11 goals.

Sarah Wasike and Marjorie Okwakwao added seven each for Sharks, up 25-13 at the break. Maximiller Akinyi and Christine Mwirigi shot six apiece for the losers.

“My goal is to develop a sharp offence that does not rely on one or two scorers. So far I am happy its working,” said Oyaro.

Men champions National Cereals and Produce Board (NCPB) crushed Desert Scorpions 44-17. Brian Wakeukha and Robert Matanga scored six goals each.

The losers, who had no answers for the millers onslaught, were down 20-6 at the breather. They were lifted by Martin Odera who registered five goals.

National Youth Service hit Mountain Queens 27-17 behind six goals from Everlyne Muli and five from Serfine Akoth. Queens had five from Zipporah Machuma.

On Saturday, Ulinzi had nine goals from Kevin Imo and seven each of Moses Ndombi and Gideon Kiprotich as they shot down Desert Scorpions 45-26.

Equity Bank quartet of Prevaiket Mukabi, Munene Maxwell, Brian Kithinji and Jefferson Oketch hit four goals each as the bankers squeezed a narrow 22-21 victory over Strathmore University.

Engineers dismissed National Youth Service (NYS) 37-24 as Samuel Waiganjo managed nine goals as Sammy Amani replied with seven for the losers.

On-form Martha Lavenda tallied a staggering 20 goals, Sharon Mulei hit 11 and Medina Mukouo 10 as Ulinzi Sharks blanked NYS 57-19.

National Cereals and Produce Board NCPB whipped Mountain Queens 50-10. Mountain Queens also suffered a 39-21 defeat to Amazon, who had 16 from Maximiller Omondi.
