Amputee football players want the Amputee Football Federation to establish a league that will help people living with disability to realize their talent.

Led by Kenyan international player Mohammed Munga Ndegwa, they said having an amputee league will expose them to international standards.

"We can't just be staying at home and waiting until there is a big tournament for us to come alive. Besides, this will help us make some money," he noted.

He said a running league for amputee footballers, would give Kenyan players a chance to export their talents.

“An active league will see more players come on board. I play in the Turkish league, which is very serious because they are supported by the government unlike in Kenya where we only wait for major events."

"For us to enjoy the league and play on the global stage, we need the support of the government,” said Munga, who was the top scorer at the trials with five goals.

Munga, who was among the 25 players selected to represent the country at the Africa Para Games from September 1-11 in Accra, Ghana, asked those in the team to work hard not just for the country but also as individuals in a bid to earn international call ups.

“I play in the Turkey Super League, which is very big and for us to succeed in Accra and the Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt, we have to train hard,” he said.

The federation’s technical director Heshim Kamau added his voice on the need to have a running league across the country.  He said this will give them options especially when they need players for national duties.

“We have selected a good team that will be competing at the All Africa Para games in Ghana before heading to Egypt for the Africa Cup of Nations. For us to have many players and have a bigger number in such events, we need a running league,” said Kamau.
