Omumasaba hands Kenya second medal at Africa Beach Games

Omumasaba lost to Senegalese Siny Sembene in the men’s 90kg category on Wednesday evening.

Mark Omumasaba won a silver medal in wrestling to hand Team Kenya the second medal at the ongoing Africa Beach Games in Hammamet, Tunisia.

Omumasaba lost to Senegalese Siny Sembene in the men’s 90kg category on Wednesday evening.

Coincidentally, Omumasaba lost to the same opponent during last month's African Championships, also in Tunisia.

Despite the setback, the wrestler was delighted to finish in a podium position.

“I really feel delighted to have won my first ever medal in these games. I was calm and approached the bout carefully and I have grown in leaps and bounds," he said.

He added; “Sembene is a good wrestler and the test was tough. The support I received from the coaches and teammates really pushed me to the limit."

Coach Linus Masheti on his part, said: “We are now looking forward to the World Championships in Bali. The preparations for this championship were good. I am happy for his achievement."

Omumasaba dropped to the silver medal match after losing to Sembene by a quick tush, the West African going on to win gold in the division.

Kenya’s first medal at the games which was a silver,  was from the women’s handball team.
