Jobless FC and Chakol Queens were on Wednesday crowned the Global Appeal Football tournament champions in the finals played at the Busia County Stadium.

Ivan Onyango and Yassin Sije scored for Jobless FC in their 2-0 victory over Obucuun. Chakol Queens won by the same scoreline against Lukolos Ladies.

The winners pocketed Sh30,000 while the runners-up took half the prize. The tournament was sponsored by Busia County Women Representative Catherine Omanyo.

Sije was the men's top scorer after bagging five goals. He was also named the male best player. Despite firing blanks in the finals, Sadam Nyengenye of Obucuun Border took the best goalkeeper award.

Chakol Queens' Maureen Walela was the women's top scorer after finding the back of the net twice. Caren Biso was named the best goalkeeper in the women's cadre.

Walela said: “We are participating in Western Regional League and we are currently lying in third position. Financial constraints are our major undoing and more so I need to pursue a diploma course in Laboratory Technology at Sang’alo Technical Institute to realise my cherished academic dreams".

Tusker head coach Robert Matano and his City Stars counterpart Nicholas Muyoti were in attendance.

Matano, who played for Busia United in 1984 before joining AFC Leopards, said talents abound in the County but regretted that the standard of Busia Stadium was below par.

“We have talent and the best coaches in the county but we lack standard pitches for hosting major matches. We need a paradigm shift from the local leadership to reverse the trend,” he said, pledging to recruit at least three players in the county to play for Tusker FC.
