KCB head coach Japheth Munala has said poor ball reception was the reason why the team was eliminated in the round of 16 of the Africa Club Volleyball Championships.

The bankers' African title defense suffered a blow when they were knocked out by hard-fighting Mouloudia Club form Algeria 3-2 in a five-set thriller last week.

“Our reception failed us in the last minutes of the final set in the round of 16. It is an area we have to look into going forward but we are back to the drawing board," Munala said.

Despite the setback, Munala said he was impressed with the performance of his young players and promised to work on their mistakes in order to be ready for the next year's edition.

“The team is still young and energetic. It was a learning experience for most of them. We know where we failed as a team and I promise that this team will be African beaters next year," he added.

KCB won the African gong in 2022 after annihilating Egypt's Al Ahly in the finals, also held in Tunisia. The team will switch attention to the local league that is expected to resume this weekend.

Munala was addressing the media on Wednesday morning at JKIA after the team’s arrival from North Africa.
