Malkia Strikers coach Paul Bitok has said he expects the Kenya Volleyball Federation to name the provisional squad for the national women's volleyball team after the Africa Women's Club Championships in Tunisia next month.

The annual club continental assignment is set for May 13-26.

The Club Championships is considered one of the most prestigious volleyball tournaments in Africa, attracting the best clubs from across the continent.

Malkia Strikers are set to play in the Challenger Cup in July that will kickstart a busy schedule for the Mercy Moim-captained team.

The five-day competition will be held in Laval, France from July 25-30.

A top-two finish will guarantee the record African champions a place in the Volleyball Nations League VNL next year.

The Kenya Queens will also carry the country's flag in the African Nations Championship set for August 6-18 at Yaounde, Cameroon. The Paris 2024 Olympics are also around the corner.

"We intend to name the initial team immediately after the club championship. We have a series of competitions lined up so there's a need to start preparations as soon as possible," Bitok said.

He added: "FIVB handed Malkia a slot for the Challenger Cup which is a rare opportunity. We have to make use of that to earn points and participate in VNL. The teams that will play in the Olympics next year will be based on rankings so we have to take all the competitions seriously."
