Seven schools will grace the Mount Kenya Bloc swimming championships slated for Saturday at the MPesa Foundation Academy in Thika.
Among the teams that have confirmed participation include Alliance Girls, Nanyuki High, St. Christopher's School Nanyuki, Nyeri Good Shepherd Academy, Mt. Kenya Academy, Bloomington Academy and Crawford International School.
The event will be used to pick a team for the Kampala Invitational Swimming Championships in Uganda later this month as well as the Hamilton Aquatics competition slated for Dubai in June.
Coach Omar Ali Omari, who doubles up as the Secretary of Mt Kenya Swimming bloc, said they intend to promote competitive swimming and rival other regional swimming blocs like Coast Amateur Swimming Association (CASA), who have been dominating national swimming galas.
"I am expecting a big turnout of swimmers for the event and I believe the level of competition will be high based on the various events we have this year. We hope to select a formidable squad for the two events,” added Omari.
Omari added they are encouraged that various schools in the county had taken up the sport in the past couple of months.
"We have seen an increase in swimming events in the recent past and we hope the trend can continue for the remainder of the year," said Omari.
