Vihiga United chairman, Kahi Indimuli, has denied reports they plan to surrender their National Super League slot to Luanda Villa.

Indimuli said he was surprised after stumbling upon the claims on social media pages.

“As the chairman of the Vihiga county government-sponsored team, I wish to refute the rumours and confirm that the club is still intact and will participate in the coming second-tier season,” Indimuli said.

"I have been abroad and at no time, have I signed any document indicating that the team has been disbanded," he added.

However, a reliable source in the club hinted at a serious financial crisis that could destabilize its presence in the second division league which is expected to start at the weekend.

"The team has a financial problem and in the current situation, life seems to be difficult. Talks are already underway to exchange the NSL position with Luanda Villa," the source said.

The source also claimed that the club offloaded half of its players to Luanda Villa and Vihiga Bullets to reduce costs.

In a separate interview, Luanda Villa officials admitted that they had considered buying the slot but the plans fell through at the eleventh hour.

"Initially, we had planned to buy the slot from Vihiga United, yes, but many issues arose that made us drop the whole idea," Musa Abwenje Chairman.

Luanda Villa are currently in the First Division League, aiming to rise to the National Super League.
