Tight security as Uhuru expected at Mutomo Primary in Gatundu

A contingent of GSU officers have arrived at Mutomo Primary School polling station ahead of President Uhuru Kenyatta's arrival to vote.

The GSUs were seen walking into the polling station as Uhuru is expected to arrive shortly.

Voters started to cast their ballots shortly after the official opening of the polls at 6am. 

Uhuru is stepping down from the powerhouse after reaching the end of his two-term limit.

The main candidates vying to replace him are far from fresh faces.

William Ruto 55, has been Uhuru's deputy for the past nine years, though they have fallen out, with both pointing fingers at each other.

Raila Odinga 77, is a veteran opposition leader who, this time round, has won Uhuru's endorsement.

Other candidates include; George Wajackoya and Waihiga Mwaure.

To avoid a run-off, a presidential candidate needs more than 50 per cent of votes and at least 25 per cent of the votes cast.

There are 22.1 million registered voters.
