Africa 100m champion  Ferdinand Omanyala cruised to the final after winning his semi-final in the ongoing Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.

He clocked 10:02, which was  the fastest time of the semifinal, edging Cameroon's E. Eseme into the final qualification spot on 10.14.

Kenya's Samuel Imeta failed to qualify after finishing fifth in Heat 3. He posted 10:24, missing out on the two qualifying slots.

Home favourite Mitchell Blake topped the heat in 10.13 as Jeremiah Azu of Wales came second in 10.15 with Ben Azamati of Ghana placed third in 10.18

with Sri Lanka's Yeye Abeykoon qualifying alongside the Ghanaian as some of the fastest losers in 10.20.

Defending champion Akani Simbine displayed class in his semi-final heat, winning in 10.07 ahead of R. Browning of Australia, who clocked  10.17 to advance.
